Can Everyone See Your AI Makeup?

With so much uncertainty, I wanted to find a way to add value to you, non-profit leaders, with no intent to sell you anything here. I figured I'd create these Weekly Emails I call Monday Motivational Minute because Mondays are historically the roughest days, and a minute . . . well because you're very busy people. In these, I'll add creative, quick, actionable takeaways for you to try (All in a minute read). No pressure, no need to respond, read at your leisure or unsubscribe if it doesn't add value.

Happy "Grateful to be Employed" Monday!
CAN EVERYONE SEE that obvious AI makeup you're wearing?
So many nonprofit leaders are sporting drag queen-level AI makeup in their communications. (No offense to drag queens; y'all are fabulous!) Let me explain before I get myself canceled here.
Your emails, newsletters, and external messaging SCREAMS "I used ChatGPT" louder than a firetruck passing by, while you're on an important call. 😣
I hate to break it to you, but it's killing your emotional connection with donors and stakeholders.
People can smell AI writing from a mile away, and it makes them feel like you don't care enough. Your mission deserves better than robotic communication.
Don't you roll your eyes when you receive emails that start with "I hope this email finds you well"? Yeah, they judge you the same too.
WAIT DON'T PANIC! I gotchu.
Today you’ll learn how to apply AI makeup with class, so nobody knows you're wearing any.
Actionable Task: Master the "Invisible AI" editing process:
Always always always edit your output (sounds obvious, but we get busy and hit send without thinking)
Use SHIFT+CTRL+V when pasting from AI to avoid formatting disasters that make emails look wonky; you may have to restructure but it's worth it.
Edit ruthlessly for these AI giveaways:
Remove ALL dashes (even if you normally write with them)
Replace big words with simple ones
Match to YOUR speaking tone
Delete uncommon phrases and fancy words
Fact-check everything data-related
Strip out overly formal, generic, or too-polished language
And do this for EVERYTHING that goes out to the public
Remember: The most powerful AI isn't the one that impresses with complexity, it's the one that disappears into usefulness. When people stop thinking about the tool and start focusing on the outcome, you've achieved technology perfection.
Nobody needs to know your email auditioned for RuPaul's Drag Race, the corporate world isn't ready for that level of authenticity. Shantay, you stay. (Two snaps)
