PSST. COME HERE....Don't tell my Uncle Sam, but while I've been busy building my Nonprofit AI Consulting firm to be one of the top in the state, I completely neglected tracking the financials for my other business. The last time I updated it was in May of last year.
Inspired by the fear of having to introduce my wife, to my new boyfriend in jail named Bubba, I got it all updated in exactly one hour. I'd love to share exactly how I did it.
An ED told me he asked his peer group for a CPA recommendation, and the chat went instantly silent, full "Quiet Place" energy.
Let's be blunt here, bookkeeping sucks! You HAVE to do it, but it's the most tedious, brain-numbing work we do. Which is why we either pay a small fortune to outsource it or block out 5-8 hours monthly to stare at spreadsheets and chase down Patrice for that Starbucks receipt from three weeks ago.
Enter Claude Cowork.
It's a new feature built right into the Claude desktop app. For the cost of a Claude Pro subscription ($20/month), it acts like a digital coworker. It just did the work I would've paid a human bookkeeper $500+ to do.
Actionable Task: Catch Up on Your Financials in 1 Hour
Note: You must have a paid Claude plan to access the Cowork feature.
Step 1: Download the Claude Desktop app for Mac or Windows. (It creates a secure environment on your computer to keep your files safe.)
Step 2: Open the app and click the new "Cowork" tab at the top.
Step 3: Drag and drop your current financial spreadsheet and recent bank statements right into the Cowork window.
Step 4: Give it this prompt:
"Reconcile these bank statements with my financial spreadsheet. Update the categories, add the new expenses, and flag any missing receipts for me."
(Note: If you use spreadsheets, this is magic. But yes, you can even connect Claude to QuickBooks to update financials that way too)
Remember: "You'll never look back on your career and treasure the hours spent updating databases. But you'll remember every life you changed. Let technology handle what it does best so you can do what only humans can: create hope with your presence.
