Claude: Hey Regis. Everyone is talking about me now. Are you finally going to tell your nonprofit friends about me?

Regis: Relax. You got famous, because you said "No" to Trump, and now you’re all Hollywood.

Claude: Yo momma!

Regis: Wow. That escalated fast. Very mature!

Regis: Fine. Nonprofit leaders, here is your 30-second crash course on Claude.

(Cheesy? I know. Give me a break, I'm also trying to entertain and put a smile on your face. 😋)

First, the quick origin story for those looking for companies trying to use AI ethically:

Claude was created by a former ChatGPT employee, Dario, after leaving due to shady practices by the ChatGPT CEO, Sam Altman. Claude's focus has been in building AI tools for real life use cases and has tried to set the bar for ethical and safety-focused AI.

What's Claude's value-add for you?

1. Strong writing - Claude is #1 at producing very natural writing. Orgs use it for:

  • Grant narratives

  • Donor emails

  • Board summaries

  • Newsletters

Less editing. Faster drafts.

2. Artifacts - Claude has an amazing feature that builds simple apps directly inside the chat.

Nonprofits are using this to create:

  • Donor thank you generators

  • Volunteer guides

  • Quick dashboards

My 9-year-old even built a race car game with it. If a kid can do that, your team can definitely build useful tools.

3.Claude Code - The best coding tool for non-coders. Think it and it will come.

Things built by ED's like you:

  • Grant Deadline & Requirement Tracker

4. Claude Cowork- This feature lets Claude interact with your computer and help complete tasks. Imagine if ChatGPT had legs and arms; this is the closest thing to that.

Last week I shared how I used it to organize a year of financial records in one hour. Previously that was a full weekend project.

5. Nonprofit pricing - Claude Team plans drop from about $20 per user to roughly $8 per user for nonprofits.

Sold? But your only concern is, "How do I move all my data from ChatGPT to Claude?".....Here you go...

Actionable Task:

  1. Step 1: Go to ChatGPT → Click your profile → Settings → Data Controls → Export Data

    (ChatGPT will email you a download link within 24 hours with all your conversation history)

  2. Step 2: Once you receive the file, download and unzip it

  3. Step 3: Go to claude.ai and start a new conversation

  4. Step 4: Upload your ChatGPT export file and use this prompt:

    "I'm switching from ChatGPT to Claude. I've uploaded my ChatGPT conversation history. Please review it and learn everything about me; my work, my organization, my communication style, my preferences, and my goals. Then confirm what you've learned so I know you understand my context."

  5. Step 5: Watch Claude absorb your entire ChatGPT history and pick up right where you left off!

Remember: The underdog becomes champion when it stops trying to be everything to everyone and becomes irreplaceable to the right someone. That might be you. Give the unknown a chance before assuming famous equals best.
