One Minute AI Crash Course for Busy Non-Profit Leaders

With so much uncertainty I wanted to find a way to add value to you non-profit leaders, with no intent to sell you anything here. I figured I'd create these Weekly Emails I call Monday Motivational Minute because Mondays are historically the roughest days, and a minute . . . well because you're very busy people. In these, I'll add creative, quick, actionable takeaways for you to try (All in a minute read). No pressure, no need to respond, read at your leisure or unsubscribe if it doesn't add value.
---------------------
Happy 4 Days until Friday!
Non-profit leaders are drowning in "you haven't tried ChatGPT yet?!" comments while barely finding time to breathe between meetings.
FOMO hitting hard? Let's fix that NOW. (Yes, I’m aging myself by saying FOMO)
Here's your one-minute AI crash course:
There are 4 main AI tools, and they all have a free version:
Chat GPT (#1 best overall)
Copilot (Best free, easiest to use)
Gemini (Google AI)
Perplexity (Great for data and fact finding)
Paid version writes better and has more human-like logic built in
Each chat is called an AI Chatbot
An AI chatbot is a thing that has learned EVERYTHING from the internet and can conversationally reference its information.
Yes, you can chat with it like it’s a human. It understands conversation.
The way you write to it is called a Prompt
A professional at chatting with it is called a Prompt Engineer
You do not need to pay to learn AI. Everything is online and easily accessible.
Edit EVERYTHING you get from AI that will be seen by someone else.
Always consider AI as the best first draft. It is not perfect.
Each Prompt needs 3 things to be an ideal Prompt
Title/Person-Give it a mindset to think like (Ex. Be an Expert Grant Reviewer)
Task- Give it a job (Ex. Review the attached grant and tell me how to improve it to get a higher likelihood of approval)
Stipulation- Give it your preference (Ex. I attached the approval rubrics, grade it on that criteria)
Example of a full Prompt ( I want you to be the best Non-profit executive director. How would you improve my organization with unconventional suggestions I may not have thought of? Ask me any questions you need to know about my organization to give the best suggestions.)
AI can also produce images ( Ex. Create an image of . . )
You can even talk to it verbally like it is a human being. (It’s crazy!)
At this point, literally, ANYTHING is possible with AI; it is the new internet, times ten. You just have to prompt it correctly; Industry calls it "Garbage in, Garbage out"
Thats it! Yayyy, You graduated! You're now an AI expert, and now know more than people in your industry, all in just one minute.
Next, when you have free time, here are some prompts to try out to see AI in action.
Actionable Task: Copy/paste any of these prompts to immediately experience AI's power:
"Be the best fundraiser. Generate three zero-budget ideas to raise $25,000 in three months."
"Be an expert grant reviewer. Review my attached application using the included scoring rubric."
"Be a motivational therapist. Analyze my stream-of-random thoughts and give me three blunt recommendations to improve my life."
“I want you to generate a highly motivational daily mantra to keep going and doing the work I do. Ask me all the questions you need of me to ensure you reach the core of my "why" and values.”
Remember: "Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around for a while; you could miss it" Ferris Bueller
Have an amazing week!
